Augmented weaving

On the Fraying Edge
Physical crafts are the technologies of the pre-digital age, while digital tools are becoming the crafts of the future.
Augmented Weaving was invited to create an artistic contribution to the first-of-its-kind holographic runway show Future Front Row during Amsterdam Fashion Week. In the collection On the Fraying Edge, tradition meets technology. Each outfit is built on the source of heritage craftsmanship, such as tailoring or weaving, and projected into the digital realm. Every piece appears wearable, yet defies the constraints of gravity, opening up space for the imagination of another reality.
Augmented Weaving seized the opportunity to explore the interplay between textiles and the body in motion. The quest began with avatars, who developed into distinct characters. Their forming identities were expressed through intricate woven textures and tailored shells. Throughout the process, various workflows were developed and documented, forming a growing archive of digital craft techniques.

Florian Holdener

Passo del Giulia Collection Season 2024
The Collection Passo del Giulia, launched in Spring/Summer 2023, tells of Florian Holdener’s homecoming to Switzerland after 18 years living abroad. It is a kind of “spring awakening” – a fond childhood memory Holdener holds in his soul. Precious moments where he jumped from rock to rock at the Julier Pass in the heart of the Engadin Valley.
He drew inspiration from the colours and structures of moss and stones and their joyful awakening after the snowmelt. The colour range reflects a spring day with shades of beige, green and burned browns sprinkled with pink, yellow and soft blues.
The high-quality luxury cloth was sourced in St. Gallen and makes an additional reference to his Swiss heritage. It shows Holdener’s exceptional skill in merging the seemingly contrasting: he combines delicate laser-cut flowers with rough and traditional wax cloth from the UK, commonly used for raincoats. It results in an artful, raw and sculptural aesthetic which is often seen in Holdener’s designs.

Tosca Wyss
Growing Slow Fashion
For Nitya Unju Park and Tosca Wyss, upcycling is a necessity, not just an image. They are inspired by what already exists and has become worthless to others. This is how they came to collaborate with Rrrevolve and Nudie Jeans.
Nudie Jeans offers a lifetime repair guarantee on its jeans, but some of the trousers really cannot be salvaged or have never been sold due to a production error. These became the raw material for the collaboration with the Swiss fair fashion retailer Rrrevolve. The designers carefully sorted, cleaned and rearranged 650 pairs of jeans and gave them a new lease of life as unisex patchwork children’s dresses in various shades.
Their production always takes place in close cooperation with a Berlin sewing studio, which ensures short, CO2-saving delivery routes and is therefore time and cost efficient. Together, they want to secure the tailoring trade and local jobs and show that upcycling as an innovative method has the potential to change the textile industry.

Applied Utopia
You are shady, that’s why you feel shady – Confusion and uncertainty are the shady feeling: how to deal, how to get on, or how to do the right thing in a world of consumerism and productivity.
Applied Utopia is a first discursive exhibition project created by NCCFN in collaboration with Zeughaus Teufen. The exhibition examines contrasts and all the shades of gray in between, using the fashion system as its field of research. Its scenography is a reflective ecosystem of the world we are living in – where everything is sold and bought. NCCFN encourages people to think about global supply chains and promote a discussion of what sustainability means. It is a market space and a meeting point – to share, discuss and negotiate the problems and the utopias we have.
NCCFN (Nothing Can Come From Nothing) is a multi-local network of designers and craftspeople that uses fashion as a medium to understand and address the multiple challenges caused by its global industry.
