In November my parents remigrated to Brazil. As a result, I spent much of the past year going through the contents of our home, deciding what could be kept and what would have to go. The belongings organized into three categories; items to keep for myself, items to get rid of and a third more complicated category of things I had no use or space for yet too precious to let go of.
-
It was while disassembling the contents of what had been my home for many years that I stumbled upon the fragments of my thesis. I have spent a substantial part of my formative years in this home. Even after moving out of my parents’ place, it remained my anchor.
_
The third category, the remnants of our home, became the starting point for my thesis.
The collection functions as a new home for objects, materials and memories left without a clear destination.
_
Through processes of disassembly, deconstruction, and reassembly, domestic materials become garments, framing the collection as an exploration of continuity and material memory following the dismantling of this home.
_
My thesis is a tribute to the home my parents have built for me.
